MARVEL ZOMBIES Will Rise in New Animated Series – New Image and Director Promises “Blood Will Be Spilled”
This fall, the undead are taking another bite out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Marvel Zombies prepares to shamble onto Disney+. Now fans have got a new look thanks to a image teasing the chaos to come.
If that’s not enough to get you hyped, Bryan Andrews, the series showrunner, is making a bold promise: “All I can say is, blood will be spilled.”
This isn’t Andrews’ first rodeo in the world of animation. He’s known for his work on Primal, Sym-Bionic Titan, and Star Wars: Clone Wars, and he’s now bringing his signature intensity to Marvel Zombies.
The series spins out of the events of Marvel’s What If…?, which already gave fans a terrifying glimpse of the undead plague infecting beloved heroes.
The new image reveals a horde of zombified Marvel characters, showcasing just how deep this infection runs through the multiverse. It also teases new faces joining the fight for survival.
Unlike the original What If…? episode, this show brings in several MCU characters who didn’t appear the first time around. Expect to see David Harbour as Red Guardian, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, Florence Pugh as Yelena, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel, Awkwafina as Katy Chen, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Dominique Thorne as Ironheart, and Hailee Steinfeld as Hawkeye.
The series will introduce a new version of Blade voiced by Todd Williams. It's a very different take on the iconic vampire hunter and could be a fresh start for the character in the animated multiverse.
The undead mayhem began back in Ultimate Fantastic Four #21-23, thanks to writer Mark Millar and artist Greg Land. That storyline led directly into the Marvel Zombies comic book miniseries from The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and artist Sean Phillips, who took things to a grotesque new level.
In those stories, zombified heroes didn’t just eat civilians. They consumed their fellow Avengers and even absorbed the power of Galactus.
Back in What If…?, we saw the likes of Spider-Man, Ant-Man, and Black Panther survive the zombie outbreak, but the episode’s closing moments teased something even more terrifying. Zombie Thanos, Infinity Gauntlet nearly complete, stood ready to reshape the multiverse.
It’s unclear if Marvel Zombies will pick up from that wild scene, but it’s safe to say we haven’t seen the last of undead Thanos.
Marvel Zombies looks like it’s ready to deliver a wild and bloody ride. As Andrews puts it, “All I can say is, blood will be spilled.”
