Marvel's AVENGERS: THE KANG DYNASTY Will Be Helmed By SHANG-CHI Director Destin Daniel Cretton
Marvel Studios has hired Shang-Chi: The Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton to helm the first of two big Phase 6 finale films, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. The project was just announced over the weekend at San Diego Comic-Con and the other film that will be released is Avengers: Secret Wars.
Cretton will only direct The Kang Dynasty, and another director will take on the duty of bringing Secret Wars to life. Marvel fans were hoping that the Russo Bros. would come back to direct it, but Kevin Feige confirmed that they will not be involved.
As of right now, no screenwriter has been announced and we have no idea what characters will be involved, other than Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror, or what exactly the MCU version of the story will be like. In the comics in the early 2000s, Kang did end up conquering Earth, but the Avengers ultimately defeated him.
I thought Chang-Chi was great and I’m sure he’ll do a great job with The Kang Dynasty. He’s also developing a Wonder Man series for Disney+. The guy is obviously in Marvel Studio for the long haul and there’s no doubt he’ll do more great things.
The Kang Dynasty is set to be released on May 2, 2025, and Avengers: Secret Wars is due to open six months later, on November 7, 2025.
