Marvel Studios will start shooting its Black Panther sequel in July 2021. I wasn’t sure what Marvel planned on doing with the sequel after Chadwick Boseman unexpectedly passed away. The sequel was originally supposed to start production in March 2021, so it was only pushed back a few months.

Ryan Coogler is returning to direct the sequel, and it’s also been reported that Tenoch Huerta, star of Netflix's Narcos: Mexico, has joined the cast. He is said to be taking on the role of one of the antagonists.

The report also says that Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, and Angela Bassett are expected to return reprise their roles and apparently Wright’s character Shuri “may take on a more prominent role.”

Fans have speculated that Shuri could take on the mantle of Black Panther in the franchise, so if she has a more prominent role in the sequel, that might be the case. We’ll just have to wait and see. This seems like a decision that a lot of fans will be okay with if this is the direction that Marvel takes it. Nothing official has been announced, though, in regards to how they will proceed without Boseman.

Marvel has obviously decided the direction that they plan on taking things now that a production start date has been set. That shoot will take place in Atlanta and will last for upwards of six months.
