Marvel’s Brad Winderbaum Says X-MEN ‘97 Scripts Are "Insane," Talks X-MEN Reboot and X ACADEMY Rumors
Marvel fans have been waiting patiently for updates on the studio’s X-Men plans since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox. While there aren’t many details, Marvel’s Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, recently shed some light on where things stand.
Winderbaum teases the future of X-Men ‘97 and confirmed that the X-Men film is indeed in active development, though he didn’t offer much in terms of specifics. When asked about the rumored X Academy series for Disney+, he kept things vague:
"I think anybody could say anything online, and it hits the rumor mill and people get excited. Right now, we are still working on X-Men ‘97 season 2. It's coming together amazingly, and the scripts for season 3 are insane.
“That is certainly scratching the X-Men itch for me on television. And there is an X-Men feature in development right now, so that is the focus of X-Men currently."
It’s clear that as of right now, Marvel’s current X-Men priorities are centered around X-Men ‘97 and the upcoming film.
X-Men ‘97 is a major priority for Marvel right now, with work on Season 2 in full swing and Season 3 already shaping up to be wild.
While no director has been officially attached to the X-Men project, the steady stream of casting rumors suggests Marvel is actively assembling its new team. Some of the latest reports includes:
Harris Dickinson (The Iron Claw) and Jack Champion (Avatar: The Way of Water) being eyed for Cyclops.
Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) as a likely pick for Jean Grey.
Ayo Edebiri (The Bear) and DeWanda Wise (Jurassic World Dominion) rumored for Storm.
Hunter Schafer (Euphoria) reportedly in consideration for Mystique.
Julia Butters (The Fabelmans) in talks to play Kitty Pryde.
Margaret Qualley (Poor Things) potentially on the studio’s radar for Rogue.
And, of course, Gambit is expected to be part of the team—though whether or not that means Channing Tatum finally gets his shot remains to be seen.
Michael Lesslie is currently writing the script.
