Marvel's Kevin Feige Originally Wanted to Kill off All the Avengers in AVENGERS: ENDGAME

Over the course of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Black Widow and Iron Man were killed off. They sacrificed themselves to save the world, and when Jon Favreau found out that the Russo Bros. were going to kill off Iron Man, he called them up to try and stop them. Favreau told them, “You can't do this, it's gonna devastate people. You don't want them walking out of the theater and into traffic.”

Well, it turns out that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige’s original pitch for Endgame was much darker and much more traumatic. He wanted to kill off all six original members of The Avengers! This information came from director Joe Russo, who told the Happy Sad Confused podcast:

"Kevin did actually pitch at one point taking all the OGs off the board. We thought it was way too aggressive and that the audience wouldn’t be able to process it, and that in fact picking one or two characters to make sacrifices throughout the movie might give you moments throughout the film where the action could stop and you could have emotional catharsis and then continue with the narrative and then have more emotional catharsis."

Anthony Russo added, "That was early days. It wasn’t like there was ever a script or anything that had that in it." But, the fact that the idea was actually on the table at one point is madness! That would have definitely devastated fans and cause them to walk out of the theater and into traffic!

I guess that proves that even the great Kevin Feige has bad brain fart ideas sometimes. Luckily he had a solid creative team around him to tell him no.
