Marvel's MOON KNIGHT Writer Wants to Work on a GARGOYLES Project for Disney
When Disney+ dropped, one animated series that a lot of fans were excited to watch again was Gargoyles! So many of us grew up watching that incredible show, and it’s one project that Disney owns that the fans would love to see revived in some way. But for some reason, Disney isn’t doing anything with the property.
If Disney ever did decide to revive the series or develop it as a live-action series or film, Marvel’s Moon Knight writer, Beau DeMayo, would love to be a part of the creative development team that brings it to life. When asked about some other projects he might want to work on, the writer said:
"I was probably more excited, and this'll probably get me fired, I was more excited to watch Gargoyles when Disney+ dropped than any other show on there. I was like, oh, I'm watching Gargoyles as soon as that drops. But that was my stuff growing up. It's strange, I'm a fanboy and I just go where the winds take me. Because the thing is is like, from an outside perspective, yes, what I do is really cool and awesome. But at the end of the day, it is a job and there are bills to pay. So I've just been lucky to land that stuff that pays the bills, that I love."
He went on to say:
"I'm just saying... I should probably, actually, ask around. I thought Jordan Peele was doing something with it, I thought I heard. But come on, how did that air for kids? There is some serious stuff going on in there."
Those serious issues and storylines that the show told were some of the reasons why I was so intrigued by it when I was growing up. Gargoyles and Batman: The Animated Series were shows that didn’t treat kids like they were stupid, like most of the animated shows today. These shows gave kids something to think about, taught them things, and at the same time entertained the hell out of them! DeMayo went on to say:
"I watched that recently. I was like, 'Oh, okay,' And then the third season they get into race politics because the mayor is turning everybody against the Gargoyles. But even that opening... I think it's a four part opening... their friends just get slaughtered, they get frozen in stone, they wake up and everybody's dead and then Goliath's ex-girlfriend has become a homicidal maniac, voiced by Commander Troi."
Prior to jumping in to work on Marvel’s Moon Knight for, DeMayo helped develop the first season of The Witcher for Netflix as well as its upcoming spin-off anime The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.
It would be pretty awesome if Disney finally moved forward with a Gargoyles project, and if they did, I’m sure that Demayo would make a great addition to the creative team.
