Marvel's SECRET EMPIRE Has Brough Back Someone Who No-One Expected
Spoilers ahead, and don't get your hopes up because someone has come back. A bunch of really important people have also died too. But let's get to the dramatic reveal of some things you might have missed out on if you haven't been reading the series.
Cap is Hydra now. He took over America by locking a third of the superheroes outside of Earth, and a third in New York City and the other third have been trying to fix him, like he's a teenager who's going through a phase. Everyone was in a big race to get a bunch of Cosmic Cubes, aka magical Mcguffin of Winning. you collect them all and you can change history. And Hydra Cap wants everyone to be Hydra. Obviously, the other heroes are not for that, so lots of crazy stuff happens, but not as crazy as what's happened recently.
So, Hydra found the renegade heroes home-base and destroyed it due to someone who leaked the info on the renegade's team. Spoiler: It was Ant-Man. Then Spider-Man (Morales Edition) goes to fulfill his destiny by killing Captain America and fails because Cap wants to live. Also, Cap kills Black Widow. WHAAAAAT? Yup. She's dead.... for now. Knowing Marvel, she'll be back in a year. Three tops. Also, using some of the Cosmic Cube they have left, the good guys break all of the other good guys free from space and New York. But Blackout had to die in the process. Do you know who Blackout is? No? Then you shouldn't care. He's a villain, and we probably won't see come back anytime soon. Agent Coulson is dead. But he died at the beginning, so don't worry too much about that one either. Lots o' dead. Pretty sad. You know, if death had a meaning in the Marvel world. Speaking of which...
Bucky's Back. What didn't know Bucky died? I mean, besides the one time he died... and the other... and the other. Ok. So he died right at the beginning of Secret Empire. Zemo killed him with the help of the Cosmic Cube but in little girl form. They wanted to turn him Hydra too, but he resisted. So he was dead. BUT HE WASN'T! I think. Anyway, apparently, Namor snuck him into his base when he was supposed to die, and he's been hiding out there for a while. Now he's back and everyone else is back, and SHIT IS GOING DOWN.
Only two more issues of Secret Empire, and it's all over, and all the people whining about how Cap can never turn bad can stop... hopefully. This has been an epic story for Marvel in my opinion, and I was surprised to see how many turned on Marvel because of it. I guess I understand it, to a point. I remember my outrage when Spider-Man was killed and replaced by Doc Ock for like two freakin' years, but in the end, it turned out to be incredibly intriguing and the status quo was returned... eventually.
If you haven't given the comic a chance. You don't even have to get all the issues that connect to it. Just go with the Secret Empire titles, if you haven't. It's really cool. It tells a very interesting story with a world where the villain is someone who stands for something he believes is good, and has a majority of the nation who agree with him. He isn't evil. But things do drive him to make bad decisions.
I'll be sad when this ends. It has been a rollercoaster. I'm sure whatever they have up their sleeve next will be great, though.
Bonus: If for no other reason to check this out. There is a new Inhuman who's power is to barf up anything he can think of.... anything! Crazy, right?
