Marvel's S.W.O.R.D. Has a Different Name and Meaning in The MCU
Marvel’s S.W.O.R.D. is officially making its way into the MCU. The organization is going to play a part in the upcoming Disney+ series WandaVision. But, it looks like S.W.O.R.D. will have a slightly different name and meaning in the MCU than it does in the comics.
In the comics S.W.O.R.D. stands for “Sentient World Observation and Response Department”. The new MCU acronym for S.W.O.R.D. was revealed by Topps in some snapshots of the cards that it plans to release to promote the series. In the logo for S.W.O.R.D., it’s revealed that that the new name is “Sentient Weapon Observation Response Division”.
In the comics, S.W.O.R.D. is a cosmic organization that focuses on protecting the world from cosmic threats. But, as you know, WandaVision doesn’t really have anything to do with space, so it seems they changed the word “World” to “Weapon”.
“Sentient Weapon Observation Response Division” could also be used for both threats on Earth as well as in space. After all, we know that weapons exist in the cosmic realm of the MCU as well. What are your thoughts on this new name for S.W.O.R.D.?
