Marvel’s ZODIAC Could Revisit the MCU’s Past and Reconnect With AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

Some new details have surfaced about what fans can expect from the upcoming MCU series Zodiac. According to a new rumor, the show will have ties to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., explore different periods of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and mix grounded action with a little comic book weirdness.

The latest information comes from insider Alex Perez, who recently answered fan questions during a Q&A with The Cosmic Circus. When asked how closely Zodiac would connect to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Perez suggested that the upcoming series would be partially connected to the Marvel show that debuted in 2013.

There's no indication yet of whether any familiar characters will return, but the possibility of revisiting elements from the series is certainly exciting.

Perez also addressed when Zodiac will take place in the MCU timeline. Rather than sticking entirely to the present day, he claimed the series will explore both earlier and more recent periods of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

That could give Marvel an opportunity to explore the history of Zodiac and establish how the organization fits into the larger MCU.

As for the show's tone, it sounds like Marvel could be going for something closer to a spy thriller than a massive cosmic adventure.

When asked whether Zodiac would embrace the more expansive cosmic elements of the comics or take a grounded approach, Perez indicated that it would lean toward the latter, although fans should still expect a “bit of camp.”

That sounds like a fun combination for a Marvel project, especially one involving an organization like Zodiac.

Depending on how Marvel chooses to adapt the group, Zodiac could operate as an espionage organization or a criminal syndicate that uses cosmic technology and powers as weapons. That would allow the series to combine spy stories with the superhero action that MCU fans are familiar with.

Marvel has previously found success mixing grounded conflicts with larger comic book concepts in projects featuring Captain America and Shang-Chi. Zodiac could follow a similar approach while exploring a different corner of the MCU.

Of course, all of these details should be treated as rumors because Marvel Studios hasn't officially confirmed the show's storyline, its connections to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., or how its timeline will work.

Marvel announced Zodiac during New York Comic Con 2026, with the series currently scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in 2028.
