Mary Elizabeth Winstead Will Star in New CBS Show BRAINDEAD

I'm a big fan of Mary Elizabeth Winstead since seeing her in Sky High, and though she's dabbled in big budget Hollywood movies (Final Destination 3, the Die Hard franchise, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World), it's been great watching her work her way through smaller indie films like Smashed and Faults in recent years and continue to push herself as an actress.

Now word has come out that she'll star in a new CBS horror comedy series called BrainDead that hails from Robert and Michelle King, the creators and showrunners of The Good Wife. It received a 13 episode straight-to-series order, and it'll premiere in the summer of 2016. The premise sounded incredibly boring to me until I read the last sentence:

Winstead will portray Laurel, the daughter of a Democratic political dynasty who left Washington, D.C. to become a documentary filmmaker, but is pulled back into the family business when her brother, the senate majority whip, needs her help running his senate office. Now a young, fresh-faced Hill staffer, Laurel discovers two things: The government has stopped working, and alien spawn have come to Earth and eaten the brains of a growing number of congressmen and Hill staffers.

Whoa. So the show is definitely going to go to some interesting places, but just how far will it go? This is a network show, after all, and while it's great that Winstead will be pulling in a network salary for her time here, I can't help but be a little wary about this. What do you all think?
