MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Director Teases She-Ra’s Future and Says She’ll “Play a Huge Part” in a Sequel

Fans hoping to see She-Ra enter the live-action world of Masters of the Universe may get to see her in action in the sequel. Director Travis Knight recently opened up about the character’s future in the franchise, and it sounds like Princess Adora is very much part of the long-term game plan.

While Knight obviously isn’t revealing major spoilers for the upcoming movie, he did make it clear that She-Ra is important to the mythology he wants to build on screen.

“I can say very little about She-Ra,” the filmmaker tells SFX Magazine. “For me, She-Ra has always been a big part of the Masters world and a big part of Adam's story. In the fullness of time, if we're lucky to tell more stories in this universe, She-Ra will play a huge part.”

It sounds like Knight already has ideas mapped out for where the franchise could go if the first film lands with audiences.

What’s especially interesting is that She-Ra may have originally been closer to appearing in this movie than fans realized. Knight hinted that the production went through major changes during development, and some material tied to the character may have ended up on the cutting room floor.

“Whether or not she plays any part in this movie, I cannot say – but we definitely had many, many conversations about the character,” Knight added.

“There are giant scenes in the movie that aren't there any longer. I am very proud of the movie, but there are definitely things that I love that we had to cut. Hopefully, they will get to see the light of day at some point.”

That’s enough to make fans wonder if an early version of the script actually featured Adora in some capacity before things shifted creatively.

She-Ra first appeared in 1985’s He-Man and She-Ra: The Secret of the Sword before spinning off into her own animated series, She-Ra: Princess of Power.

The character got another major resurgence thanks to Netflix’s She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, which wrapped up after five seasons in 2020 and still has a passionate fanbase hoping for more stories.

The character’s future in live-action is already moving forward outside of Masters of the Universe as well. Prime Video is currently developing a live-action She-Ra series with Heidi Schreck attached as writer and executive producer alongside Robin Sweet and DreamWorks Animation.

Schreck’s previous credits include Billions, Nurse Jackie, Dispatches from Elsewhere, and I Love Dick. She also earned major acclaim for writing and starring in the stage production What the Constitution Means to Me.

The pilot episode is set to be directed and executive produced by Nicole Kassell, whose TV directing work includes Watchmen, Westworld, The Leftovers, The Americans, and Castle Rock.

Between Knight teasing future plans for Adora and Prime Video developing its own live-action series, it definitely feels like She-Ra is gearing up for a major comeback. The big question now is whether fans will get their first hint of her existence when Masters of the Universe finally hits theaters.
