It Looks Like MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Is Bringing a Few More Wonderfully Weird Villains

The upcoming Masters of the Universe movie is already pulling in a crowd of familiar faces, but it looks like the filmmakers are digging way deeper into the toy box.

Alongside heavy hitters like He-Man and Skeletor, the film is sneaking in some seriously obscure villains, the kind of characters only longtime fans or toy collectors might recognize.

Recent footage has already shown off characters like Mekaneck, Ram Man, Fisto, and Trap Jaw, signaling that the movie isn’t holding back when it comes to the classic lineup. But a newly revealed tie-in product just confirmed something even more surprising.

The Mattel Creations Brick Shop dropped its Masters of the Universe: Clash at Snake Mountain Building Set, and hidden in the details are three unexpected names: Pig Boy, Karg, and Gygor.

Karg is probably the most recognizable of the bunch, but that’s saying something. He was created specifically for the 1987 Masters of the Universe movie and was played by Robert Towers.

With a hook for a hand and a look that felt equal parts post-apocalyptic and theatrical, Karg stood out as one of Skeletor’s more intimidating enforcers. The new version keeps the hook hand intact but tones down the wild hair and leans into a more grounded, military-inspired design.

Then there’s Gygor, a character with a strange history. He was originally planned for the vintage toyline but never actually made it to shelves. Years later, he resurfaced in the Masters of the Universe Classics line, complete with a backstory.

Gygor is basically a gladiator gorilla with a grudge, having failed multiple attempts to conquer Castle Grayskull before being frozen in suspended animation. He’s eventually freed by Evil-Lyn, and from the looks of it, the movie is sticking close to that toy-inspired design, including his signature yellow and green color scheme.

And then there’s Pig Boy, who might have the most bizarre origin of them all. Like Karg, he appeared in the 1987 film, but the story behind him is what really makes him memorable. The character was played by Richard Szponder, who landed the role after winning a contest as a kid.

Pig Boy served as one of Skeletor’s oddball minions and was often seen carrying the villain’s Havoc staff. Now, it looks like a revamped version of Pig Boy is joining the new film as well, which is honestly kind of amazing.

The building set that revealed all this is priced at $54.00 and is designed to recreate a major battle between the Heroes of Eternia and Skeletor. It comes packed with 12 NanoWorld figures, including these deep-cut characters, along with effects and details pulled straight from the movie.

Here’s the official description: “The sinister Snake Mountain stands tall in this detailed set by Mattel Brick Shop. Recreate the battle between the Heroes of Eternia and Skeletor, complete with 12 NanoWorld figures, special effects, and authentic details.

“The clash of good and evil is yours to build and display. Collect all the Masters of the Universe building sets by Mattel Brick Shop and build the movie; each sold separately.”

What makes this reveal so cool isn’t just the inclusion of obscure villains, it’s what it says about the movie as a whole. It’s embracing the weird, colorful, slightly ridiculous corners of Masters of the Universe lore, and that’s exactly what fans have been hoping for.

If Pig Boy, Karg, and Gygor can make the cut, who else might be hiding in the shadows of Eternia?
