MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Movie Gets an Unexpected He-Man Prequel Comic From Dark Horse

It’s been nearly 40 years since Masters of the Universe hit the big screen in live-action form, and fans have been waiting a long time to see Eternia return to theaters.

With Amazon MGM Studios gearing up for a new take on the franchise, anticipation has been building in a serious way. Now, before the movie even arrives, we’re getting an unexpected expansion of that world in the form of a prequel comic.

Dark Horse Comics has officially announced Masters of the Universe: The Wings of Fate, a story set within the continuity of the upcoming film. If you’re curious about how this new version of Prince Adam’s journey unfolds, this comic looks like it’ll fill in some fascinating gaps.

Masters of the Universe has revolved around the eternal struggle on the planet Eternia. At the center of it all is Castle Grayskull and its ancient power. He-Man stands as Eternia’s champion, though the world doesn’t always know he’s actually Adam, Prince of Eternia. Opposing him is Skeletor, the ruthless sorcerer determined to seize that power for himself.

The new film shakes up that familiar setup. Instead of staying on Eternia, a young Prince Adam is sent away to Earth. There, he grows up far from his true home, unaware of the destiny waiting for him.

Eventually, he sets out to claim the Sword of Power, embracing a path that feels straight out of Arthurian legend. Once he fulfills that destiny, he returns to Eternia as He-Man to defend his world.

That’s where Masters of the Universe: The Wings of Fate comes in.

The prequel story unfolds in the space between Adam’s departure from Eternia and his eventual return. After Skeletor lays siege to Eternos, the fallout leaves the realm fractured.

Amid that chaos, a struggling refugee stumbles upon an injured falcon. Saving the creature sets him on a dangerous trek through the Mystic Mountains and into the distant realm of Avion.

It sounds like a more grounded, character-driven tale set against the backdrop of a war-torn Eternia, which could add some emotional weight to the larger saga.

The series is written by Tim Sheridan, who fans will recognize from Masters of the Universe: Revolution. The art comes from Will Sliney, known for his work on Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren. Colors are handled by Israel Silva, with letters by AndWorld Design.

The creative lineup alone makes this feel like more than just a quick tie-in. It looks like a meaningful piece of the overall story.

Masters of the Universe: The Wings of Fate #1 hits comic shops on June 10, 2026. If the movie is aiming to reintroduce He-Man to a whole new generation, this comic might be the perfect way to start exploring that world early.
