MATILDA THE MUSICAL Director Matthew Warchus To Helm CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG Remake
It was recently announced that the classic 1968 film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was going to be remade by Amazon MGM Studios. We’ve now learned that the film will be helmed by Matilda the Musical director Matthew Warchus.
Originally written by Bond creator Ian Fleming as a bedtime story for his son Casper, the movie is about a magical flying car, from a script written by Tony winner Enda Walsh (Small Things Like These). Eon Productions and Amazon MGM Studios are producing the film, which is in early development.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a magical adventure about Caractacus Potts (Dick Van Dyke), an eccentric inventor who restores a broken-down car with his children, Jeremy (Adrian Hall) and Jemima (Heather Ripley).
The car, named Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, turns out to have incredible powers, including the ability to fly and float on water. Joined by the charming Truly Scrumptious (Sally Ann Howes), the family embarks on a journey filled with whimsical escapades, outwitting the villainous Baron Bomburst (Gert Fröbe) and his scheming wife, the Baroness (Anna Quayle), who want to steal Chitty for themselves.
Along the way, they confront the terrifying Child Catcher (Robert Helpmann) and help liberate the oppressed children of Vulgaria.
