Matt Damon Says He and Edward Norton Want To Make a ROUNDERS Sequel

Back in 2013, it was reported that a sequel to the 1998 gambling film Rounders was moving forward. Nothing ever came of that, but Matt Damon and Edward Norton still want to make it.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Damon said he spoke with Ed Norton about it recently, and they both want to get the film into development.

Damon said: "The one that we've been talking about for years — and I just saw Edward Norton a few weeks ago, [and] all of us want to do it — is a second Rounders movie, because so much has happened in that poker world in the last 25 years, it would be fun to catch up with those guys."

Rounders is a great film, and I would love nothing more than to get caught up with these characters and see what they are up to all these years later. There’s definitely an interesting story to tell!

The original movie follows a gifted poker player who loses his entire savings in a high-stakes game against a ruthless Russian mobster, Teddy KGB.

After swearing off poker to focus on law school and his relationship with his girlfriend, Jo, Mike is pulled back into the underground poker world when his childhood friend, Worm, is released from prison and quickly falls into debt.

To help Worm, Mike returns to the poker tables, risking everything as he navigates the treacherous world of high-stakes gambling, ultimately facing Teddy KGB again in a final showdown that tests his skills, resolve, and future.

Damon went on to say there are some issues with the rights to the property, and explains: "You've got to figure out the chain of title and who owns it, and everybody's got their hand in the pot.

"So we've got to figure out a way to make a deal that makes sense for everybody, particularly the people who are going to make the movie because at Artists Equity, that's who we care about — the cast and crew. We're trying to figure that out because I think we'd all like to do that."

I hope that Damon and his team manage to figure that out because a Rounders sequel could be a lot of fun to see!
