Matt Reeves' THE BATMAN is Said To Resemble BATMAN: YEAR ONE and Will Feature a Much Younger Batman Than We Thought

Some interesting new details regarding Matt Reeves' The Batman have surfaced. These are only rumors for now, but they come from a source that has a decent track record of DC scoops.

Early one we were hearing that Reeves was looking at Jake Gyllenhaal to take on the role of Bruce Wayne. The report says that Jack Huston was also in the running around the same time. That means they were looking at Batman being in his mid-30s, but that has since changed.

The reason that these actors didn't work out and why Gyllenhaal opted to play Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home, was because Reeves is now looking for a much younger version of Batman. They want an actor to play a version of Bruce who’s 15 to 20 years younger than Ben Affleck's Batman and be around 25-years-old.

The report goes on to say that the movie will resemble Mark Miller's comic Batman: Year One:

As for the aforementioned story Reeves would like to tell, I hear there’s a specific story that folks who’ve heard his plans are comparing it to. In short, if Batman v Superman bore a passing resemblance to Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, then The Batman will bear a resemblance to Miller’s Batman: Year One.

This wouldn't be the first time that a Batman movie resembled Year One. Remember Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins borrowed a few key elements from that story as well. The official synopsis for Batman: Year One reads:

"In his first year on the job, Batman feels his way around a Gotham City far darker than the one he left. His solemn vow to extinguish the town’s criminal element is only half the battle; along with Lieutenant James Gordon, the Dark Knight must also fight a police force more corrupt than the scum in the streets."

We have no idea what elements from the story that Reeves will use if this news is true. There's a lot of great things to pull from it, but knowing the kind of filmmaker Reeves is, whatever he does use, he will make give it his own spin.

The Penguin is still expected to be a villain in the film and Jack Huston is apparently being considered for the role of Harvey Dent instead of Batman. So, we may see Two-face make an appearance as well.

The Batman is said to start shooting in early 2019. What do you think of the new rumored information that's been shared here?
