During the Warner Bros. CinemaCon presentation, the studio showed off a video giving us a behind-the-scenes look at director Matt ReevesThe Batman. It offered up some cool footage from the film and his cast opened up a bit about when fans can expect from it. Reeves shared the movie was inspired by Frank Miller's Batman: Year One and explained that he wants this to be the most emotional Batman movie ever made. He said:

"I felt that we've seen lots of origin stories. It seems things go further and further into fantasy, and I thought, well, one place we haven't been is grounding it in the way that Year One does, to come right in to a young Batman, not being an origin tale, but referring to his origins and shaking him to his core. You can have it be very practical, but I also thought it could be the most emotional Batman movie ever made."

Batman is quite the emotional character, so it makes sense that Reeves would want to try to dive into that and magnify it in his movie. The star of the movie Robert Pattinson also opened up about the project saying that it felt different and special for him to take on:

"For some reason, Batman has always stood out as one of the major characters of the 20th century, and so many people connect with it on such a deep level for so many different reasons. From the first conversation I had with Matt about it, I just knew that there was something radically different [here]."

Jeffrey Wright, who plays James Gordon in the film, also went to tease, "Gotham is a character in a way that we haven't seen before."

The Batman is a dark, noir-style film that will lean into Batman in his detective mode. Reeves said that it’s going to tell a deep and psychological story. This will be a “year two” story for Batman that acknowledges his origin and how it’s still something that he’s “majorly struggling” with.

There will be a series of murders and crimes that start taking place in Gotham and as Batman investigates those things, they begin to reveal the darkness of Gotham City to him.

The film also stars Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Andy Serkis as Alfred, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, and Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson. Gil Perez-Abraham (Orange is the New Black), Charlie Carver (Teen Wolf), and Max Carver have also been cast in undisclosed roles.

The Batman is now scheduled to hit theaters on March 4th, 2022.
