Matt Smith To Join Jared Leto in Sony's Upcoming Marvel Film MORBIUS

Matt Smith is in final talks to join Jared Leto in Morbius, Sony Picture’s upcoming Marvel film based on the classic vampire Spider-Man villain.

There’s no information on who Smith will be playing, but according to Variety, it will be a major role in the story. He will also join the previously cast Adria Arjona, who will play Martine Bancroft, the female lead.

Leto will play Morbius, a.k.a. Dr. Michael Morbius, "a scientist who suffered from a rare blood disease and attempted to cure himself to disastrous results. Instead of being cured, he became afflicted with a condition that was a form of vampirism — the thirst for blood, along with fangs and super strength — and fought Spider-Man. Over time, however, he became a slightly heroic figure in his own right and even headlined his own comic book titles."

In the comics, Martine Bancroft is engaged to Morbius before he accidentally turns himself into a vampire. As you’d expect, she ends up becoming a potential victim as Morbius learns to cope with his insatiable bloodlust.

The movie has been described as a horror action story that will follow Morbius, who is “disgusted by his own bloodlust, so he chooses to prey upon criminals he deems unworthy of life." The movie is said to be aiming for a February 2019 production start date and it’s expected to aim for a PG-13 rating.

The film will be directed by Daniel Espinosa (Safe House, Life). The script is being written by Lost in Space scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.
