Matthew McConaughey Almost Landed The Role of Jack in James Cameron's TITANIC

It turns out that Matthew McConaughey almost ended up landing the role of Jack Dawson in James Cameron’s classic film Titanic.

He was so close to landing the role that he actually auditioned with Kate Winslet to see if the right chemistry was there. The actor recently recalled this part of his life in an interview with THR, saying:

“I went and auditioned for that. I wanted that. I auditioned with Kate Winslet. Had a good audition. Walked away from there pretty confident that I had it. I didn't get it. I never got offered that.”

As you all know, the role ended up going to Leonardo DiCaprio. I actually really enjoyed Titanic! I was obsessed with the sunken ship when I was growing up, so I was super excited about the movie and Cameron ended up delivering a great movie!

It’s interesting to imagine what the film would have been like had it starred McConaughey. It would have been interesting to see how he would have played the character. When I imagine it in my head I can’t help but chuckle because it’s Matthew McConaughey!

Don’t get me wrong, the guy is a great actor, but imagining a young version of him with all of his signature quirks playing the role just seems kinda funny.

Do you think that McConaughey would have worked for the role of Jack? I just want to see the audition tapes.
