Matthew McConaughey and Zoe Saldaña Team Up for Netflix’s Romantic Caper POSITANO

Netflix is lining up an exciting pairing as Matthew McConaughey and Zoe Saldaña are in negotiations to star in the upcoming romantic caper Positano. The project is currently in development at the streamer and has Daniel Roher, director of Tuner, set to helm.

Roher is directing from a script written by Alessandro Tanaka and Brian Gatewood, with Working Title founders Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan producing. Plot specifics are being kept under wraps, but the story is described as a romantic caper set in the picturesque Italian town of Positano.

Working Title picked up the spec script after Tanaka and Gatewood took it out to market, and Roher soon came on board as director. In recent weeks, the script landed with McConaughey and Saldaña, who were immediately drawn to the story and signed on to star.

Once both actors were attached, Netflix swooped in and landed the project, with plans to fast track it into production once deals are finalized.

For McConaughey, Positano follows a notable return to acting after taking a couple of years away. He recently appeared in the Apple thriller The Lost Bus in which he plays a school bus driver who heroically saves a group of children during the 2018 Paradise fires, marking a powerful comeback for the Oscar-winning actor.

The film reunites Saldana with Netflix after her critically acclaimed turn in Emilia Perez, a performance that went on to earn her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at this year’s Oscars. She’s also about to return to theaters with Avatar: Fire and Ash, one of the most anticipated releases of the year, opening worldwide this weekend.
