Matthew Vaughn is Planning a HIT-GIRL Film, a KICK-ASS Reboot, and More KINGSMAN Movies!
Writer and director Matthew Vaughn has got some more big plans for Mark Millar's comic book properties. While talking to Empire Magazine, we learn that he's setting up a new studio and that studio is going to be developing some exciting film projects.
The filmmaker is planning a reboot of the Kick-Ass franchise, a solo Hit-Girl film, and is also planning more Kingsman movies. "We’re going to reboot Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl," Vaughn says.
He didn't get into any specifics on what these films would entail, but he did say to "look what Mark Millar is doing with the comic for clues." When it comes to Kick-Ass, I imagine that it will be based on the comic reboot that focuses on Patience Lee, an African-American single mother who’s taken on the vigilante mantle. Millar has said in the past that he'd like to see Tessa Thompson play this character, which would be awesome!
As far as Hit-Girl goes, that movie could either focus on an older Mindy Macready, who was played by Chloe Moretz in the original Kick-Ass films, or it could focus on the character's younger years growing up under the tutelage of Big Daddy. In the new comics, Hit-Girl travels the world righting wrongs and brutally kicking ass.
When it comes to the Kingsman franchise, Vaughn is developing a third regular Kingsman film that will be "the conclusion of the Harry Hart-Eggsy relationship." He's also planning a spin-off titled Kingsman: The Great Game which will explore the spy organization in the early 1900s. According to the report, the two films will shoot back-to-back. There's also an eight-hour Kingsman TV show being developed, and a Statesman film following the world of Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges and Halle Berry’s American agents.
I love these franchises so I'm excited about what we'll end up seeing in these upcoming films! What are your thoughts on this news?
