Matthew Vaughn to Develop GHOSTGIRL Movie
Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn and his Marv Films production company have just acquired the movie rights to Tonya Hurley’s popular Ghostgirl book series. The plan is obviously to adapt it for the big screen. Vaughn is an extremely talented filmmaker who always takes on great film projects. The story centers on a high school senior who is desperate to be popular even after she dies from choking on a Gummi Bear. Here’s the description from the book:
Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep. And if I should die before I awake, I pray the popular attend my wake.
Charlotte Usher feels practically invisible at school, and then one day she really is invisible. Even worse: she’s dead. And all because she choked on a gummy bear. But being dead doesn’t stop Charlotte from wanting to be popular; it just makes her more creative about achieving her goal.
If you thought high school was a matter of life or death, wait till you see just how true that is. In this satirical, yet heartfelt novel, Hurley explores the invisibility we all feel at some times and the lengths we’ll go to be seen.
Vaughn is only attached to produce the film, and I’m sure he’ll bring in the best talent for the job of bringing the story to the screen. The filmmaker’s latest project is the badass looking action spy film Kingsman: The Secret Service.
I’ve also included a stop motion animated trailer for the film that was shown at Comic-Con back in July. It’s has nothing to do with what Vaughn has planned, but it’s still worth checking out.
