Max Landis Hated STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS; Watch His Video Rant

Max Landis, the screenwriter of films such as Chronicle, Victor Frankenstein, and American Ultra, didn’t like J.J. AbramsStar Wars: The Force Awakens. I’ve only met one person who absolutely hated the movie, which is beloved by millions of people. It’s really weird when someone comes out against it and starts bashing it like this.

Among other things, Landis calls the hero of the story, Rey, a "Mary Sue”, which is a term that originated on TV Tropes. It is described as an “idealized fictional character, a young or low-rank person who saves the day through extraordinary abilities. Often but not necessarily this character is recognized as an author insert and/or wish-fulfillment.”

The use of the “Mary Sue” term has prompted a lot of fans to call Landis out for being sexist. In response, Landis released a video in which he tries to explain himself, while at the same time continuing to bash the movie. Of course, he insists that he’s not a sexist in the video, and he hopes that people will listen to his way of thinking.

He admits that no one will change his way of thinking, and I doubt anything he says in the video will change the fans' way of thinking. The whole thing comes off as self-indulgent. In the end, Abrams' film will go down as a classic, and Landis' movies will be forgotten. Check out his rant. Haters gonna hate.

A quick thing on the lack of character arcs in the Force Awakens. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MarySue Bothered me to be called a sexist. Last blog type thing for a while. Cooler, longer stuff coming soon.
