May the Force Be With Us: A Personal Love Letter to STAR WARS on May the 4th

There are some stories that just stick with you. They get under your skin, shape how you see the world, and somehow manage to grow alongside you. For me, Star Wars has always been that kind of story.

Since it’s May the 4th, Star Wars Day, it feels right to look back at how this galaxy far, far away first pulled me in and never really let go.

Everyone experiences the original trilogy in a different way. For me, the very first time I experienced it was watching Return of the Jedi on the big screen at a drive-in theater.

There was something magical about that setting. Sitting in a car under the night sky, watching lightsabers clash, Ewoks battling the Empire on Endor, and starfighters ripping across space, it felt larger than life in a way that’s hard to replicate. That was my entry point, and it hit me exactly the way it needed to.

I didn’t catch A New Hope or The Empire Strikes Back until later, watching them on a tiny TV at home. The scale was smaller, but the impact wasn’t. Even through that little screen, the story felt incredibly epic.

The characters, the mythic journey, the sense that there was this massive world beyond what I was seeing, it all clicked. It didn’t matter that I started at the end of the original trilogy. If anything, it made going back feel like uncovering lost chapters of something I already loved.

Like a lot of kids, I didn’t just watch Star Wars, I lived in it. Action figures turned into heroes and villains in stories that only existed in my imagination.

Playsets became entire planets. Every battle, every mission, every new character I dreamed up added to my personal version of the galaxy. That creative spark is one of the most powerful things Star Wars ever gave me. It wasn’t just entertainment. It was fuel for imagination.

What’s wild is how the franchise has endured. Even during those long stretches when no new movies were hitting theaters, Star Wars never faded. It stayed alive through books, games, toys, and fans who kept the spirit going.

It proved that this wasn’t just a series of films. It was something bigger, something that could evolve and still feel familiar at the same time.

And now, here we are. After everything, Star Wars is heading back to the big screen with The Mandalorian and Grogu. While that’s exciting, what really hits is the idea of experiencing it in a packed theater again.

Sitting with a crowd of fans who all share that same connection, reacting to every moment together, that’s something special. It takes me right back to that drive-in, just on a much bigger scale.

That’s the thing about Star Wars. It keeps coming back around, finding new ways to connect with us while reminding us why we fell in love with it in the first place. Whether you started with the original trilogy, the prequels, the sequels, or one of the newer series, there’s a version of this story that belongs to you.

For me, it started with Return of the Jedi under the night sky. Now it’s heading back to theaters with a whole new chapter, and I can’t wait to be there, surrounded by fans, feeling that same spark all over again.

May the 4th isn’t just a fun phrase, it’s a reminder of how powerful storytelling can be when it sticks with you for a lifetime.
