MAYOR OF KINGSTOWN Showrunner Hopeful About The Future of The Jeremy Renner Series
Mayor of Kingstown co-creator Taylor Sheridan and showrunner Hugh Dillon launched the series with big plans for future seasons, and they are hopeful that they will be able to see those plans through amid Jeremy Renner’s terrible accident.
The series has just returned for its second season, and Dillon, who also plays Ian in the series, hopes that they can start work on Season 3 later this summer. He explained to Deadline:
"Taylor and I have multiple ideas for multiple seasons. If everything went according to plan with Paramount plus and the rest of it, I would think that we’d start in August, September, maybe pre-production in the summer."
This is obviously a series that they have big plans for, but as you might imagine, what happened to Renner could very well impact the future of the show in a variety of ways. But, one thing we know for sure is that Renner has a long road to recovery. When asked about Renner’s accident, Dillon said:
"I heard about it from one of the other producers. I saw it on the news and then he sent me a video. He’s very funny. I just think the world of that guy and I’m happy he’s surrounded by his family. Anything we can do to help, we will. That’s the biggest thing. He’s like family."
Mayor of Kingstown is a great show and I hope that they get to continue it. But, first and foremost, Renner has got to get better.
The series follows the McLusky family, power brokers in Kingstown, Michigan, where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry. Tackling themes of systemic racism, corruption and inequality, the series provides a stark look at their attempt to bring order and justice to a town that has neither.
The series also stars Dianne Wiest, Hugh Dillon, Taylor Handley, Emma Laird, Tobi Bamtefa, Derek Webster, Nishi Munshi, Hamish Allan-Headley and Aidan Gillen.
