McG Will Direct ABC Family’s MORTAL INSTRUMENTS Series

Terminator Salvation director McG has finally landed a directing gig that he’s worthy of. He is set to helm the pilot episode of a TV series on ABC Family called Shadowhunters, which is based on Cassandra Clare’s YA fantasy book series The Mortal Instruments. The show is a spinoff series of the 2013 film The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones

I’m not a big fan of McG, most of the films he has made have been less than mediocre. So the fact that he has made the move to ABC Family to work on this series is appropriate. He may not be that good with movies, but he has a decent track record with TV shows like Supernatural, Chuck, NikitaThe OC, and more. As far as the series goes, here’s a description from Deadline:

Shadowhunters follows 18-year-old Clary Fray, who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she thinks she is but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters – human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. When her mother Jocelyn is kidnapped, Clary is thrown into the world of demon hunting with mysterious Shadowhunter Jace and her best friend, Simon. Now living among faeries, warlocks, vampires and werewolves, Clary begins a journey of self-discovery as she learns more about her past and what her future may hold.

The series is set to go into production in May, and there’s no word on when it will be released.
