Mckenna Grace Says There’s “Always Hope” for Another Live-Action GHOSTBUSTERS Sequel

The future of the live-action Ghostbusters franchise is still a big question mark, but one of its modern stars is clearly ready to suit up again if the call comes.

Mckenna Grace, who plays Phoebe Spengler in Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, recently shared her thoughts on whether fans might see another chapter of the Spengler family story.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Grace talked about the possibility of returning to the franchise, while also reflecting on reuniting with her former Ghostbusters co-star Celeste O’Connor in the upcoming Scream 7.

While there has been occasional talk about another Ghostbusters film from filmmakers Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, along with franchise legend Dan Aykroyd, Sony hasn’t officially announced a follow-up to Frozen Empire.

Still, Grace sounds more than happy to jump back into Phoebe’s proton pack if the opportunity arises. She said:

“I think there’s always hope. Personally, I haven’t heard anything lately. I’d be more secretive if I had, but I would love to play Phoebe again. She was such a huge part of my career and also my childhood and teenage years.

“I grew up playing her. It was such an honor for me to get to be a part of Ghostbusters and help bring it to a younger generation. So I would always be honored to play Phoebe again, and whether it would be next year, I feel like I would have heard about it by now if I was.”

Phoebe became the heart of the newer Ghostbusters films, especially in Afterlife, where the Spengler legacy carried the story forward and introduced the supernatural comedy franchise to a new generation of fans.

The character continued to evolve in Frozen Empire, cementing Phoebe as one of the key faces of the modern era of Ghostbusters.

During the same interview, Grace also talked about crossing paths again with Celeste O’Connor, who played Lucky in both Ghostbusters films.

The two actors are now appearing together in Scream 7, and the shift in their on-screen dynamic apparently gave Grace a good laugh. She explained:

“Yeah, I was like, ‘I can’t believe that we’re playing high school best friends. This is the funniest thing.’ I met Celeste when I was 12 or 13, so it was really fun getting to catch up and work together again.

“It’s always cool getting to work with people that you know, especially at such wildly different points in time. You then have endless things to talk about whenever you’re waiting around to shoot.”

Even if another Ghostbusters sequel hasn’t been confirmed yet, the franchise is far from finished. Netflix is currently developing both an animated Ghostbusters series and a separate animated film, which means the supernatural universe will keep expanding while fans wait to see what might happen next on the big screen.

For now, it sounds like Grace is ready to return whenever the franchise decides it’s time to bust ghosts again.
