Kevin Feige Confirms First LGBTQ+ Character Is Coming Soon, in Something They're Filming Right Now

MCU President Kevin Feige had previously verified that we would see a character in an upcoming film who is a member of the LGBTQ+ community, as the MCU aims to be representative of all types of people and fans. There was no word on which movie the character would be featured in, but many fans speculated it could be Captain Marvel, as her sexuality was not addressed in her first film. Then many figured that Valkyrie was the character who would fill the role, as Tessa Thompson mentioned at San Diego Comic-Con that her first order of business as the King of Asgard would be to find her queen.

But it looks like maybe we will be seeing some more representation for the community, which is great, because there are so many different types of people that can and should be represented. Kevin Feige was recently interviewed at the New York Film Academy, and during the Q&A, he was asked about the studio’s plan for bringing LGBTQ+ characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After Feige began responding affirmatively to the very happily responding audience, the questioner furthered their question, asking specifically about a transgender character. Feige confirmed by saying:

“Yes, absolutely yes. And very soon. In a movie we’re shooting right now.”

While initial reports believed he was responding to the full question, it turns out that he didn’t hear the end of that question. So we will see the first LGBT character soon, but it’s not going to be a transgender character.

The only Marvel film that is currently shooting is Eternals, which Feige previously confirmed to include a gay character. He told Good Morning America last August that one of the male characters is gay, saying:

“He’s married, he’s got a family, and that is just part of who he is.”

It’s been great to see the array of characters that have been chosen to make up these films. Every man, woman, and child should have a superhero to look up to, and the more representation, the better. The MCU makes fantastic films, so I trust that they will always find the best people for the job and tell the best stories they can.

I can’t wait to see everything coming up in this next phase! Which movie or series are you most excited about?
