Meet Kevin Conroy, The Voice of Batman in BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES
Last week we got the incredibly sad news that Kevin Conroy had passed away. Conroy provided the voice of Bruce Wayne / Batman in Batman: The Animated Series, and I spent all weekend watching episodes of that series and being blown away by his portrayal of the character.
As I was looking up old interviews with Conroy where he shared his thoughts on playing Batman, I came across this video from Great Big Story titled “Meet the Voice of Batman,” and in it Conroy talks about his journey from Julliard to Batman. He even shares his experience of auditioning for the role and what it was like for him to play the Dark Knight over the years.
The video came with the following note:
For nearly three decades, voiceover actor Kevin Conroy has been the voice of (animated) Batman. He has voiced almost every iteration of Batman in cartoons, animated movies or video games. Conroy began his career as a theater actor, attending Julliard, a prestigious acting school in New York City. He studied alongside heavyweights Robin Williams, Kelsey Grammer and more. Conroy would go on to perform on Broadway and off-Broadway when his agent called him about auditioning for the role of Batman in a new animated show. During the audition Kevin was able to use his theater background to manifest one of the most memorable voices in cartoon history.
This is such a wonderful little interview. One of the best that I’ve come across and I just wanted to share it with you.
