MEET THE PARENTS 4 Moves Forward with John Hamburg as Director
Universal’s Meet the Parents franchise is making a comeback, and this time, John Hamburg is stepping up as director. According to sources, Hamburg, who co-wrote the previous three films, is not only directing but also writing the script for the fourth installment.
The original cast, Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Teri Polo, and Blythe Danner are all set to reprise their roles in the sequel, but as of right now there are no story details to share. They’re locked away in the circle of trust.
The producing team consists of Jane Rosenthal and De Niro will produce under Tribeca Productions, with Jay Roach producing through Delirious Media. Stiller and John Lesher are on board via Red Hour Films, while Hamburg will also produce through his company, Particular Pictures.
The Meet the Parents franchise has been a fun franchise that I’ve enjoyed and the films have also been box office hits and they’ve pulled in over $1.13 billion in global earnings.
For Hamburg, this is a full-circle moment. He launched his directorial career with Safe Men (1998) before making a name for himself with hit comedies like Along Came Polly (2004), I Love You, Man (2009), Why Him? (2016), and Me Time (2022). Beyond directing, he’s worked on Zoolander .
Hamburg has also worked extensively in television, directing episodes of New Girl, Undeclared, and Stella, along with serving as an executive producer on CBS’ The Unicorn. Most recently, he directed multiple episodes of Apple TV+’s upcoming series Stick, starring Owen Wilson.
