MEGA MAN Movie Screenwriter Discusses How He is Approaching The Story and Character
Capcom is still in the process of developing its feature film adaptation of Mega Man. We don’t know much about the film, but The Batman screenwriter, Mattson Tomlin, is working on the script and in a recent interview with Polygon, he opened up and discussed his approach to the story and character. He said:
"My way into it was always, what is a compelling story? And what is the real soul of that character? We all kind of know him as this cartoonish Blue Bomber who jumps and shoots, and to kind of go beyond that and knowing that, OK, visually it’s going to be a certain thing that is going to please the video game fan, but you know what is the story at the center? They’re like, what is it that this character can really go through? It’ll be universal and primal and emotional and everybody can kind of relate to."
When he was asked if the movie would be more of a kids film like the Sonic the Hedgehog film, Tomlin said that "it is not squarely in the kid territory." So, it may end up being a bit more adult in its content. It’ll be interesting to see if it gets into the PG-13 territory. We know for a fact that it won’t be rated R.
This is the information for the film that was previously released:
Based on the influential and globally beloved Mega Man franchise, Capcom aims to appeal to a diverse audience, including not only game players but action movie fans as well, with an adaptation that maintains the world of the Mega Man games, while incorporating the grand production and entertainment value that Hollywood movies are known for.
Mega Man was one of my favorite video games growing up and I’m curious to see how this film turns out. I’m excited to see how it will look visually, but I hope that it ends up with a solid story.
