MEGADOC Trailer Drops a Wild Behind the Scenes Look at Francis Ford Coppola’s Most Chaotic Gamble

Studiocanal has released a new UK trailer for the making-of documentary Megadoc, and it offers a wild peek behind the curtain of Megalopolis, the ambitious epic that hit theaters last year and crashed hard.

Director Mike Figgis takes viewers straight into the creative storm surrounding Francis Ford Coppola and his decades long dream project, shaping the story into something far more gripping than the movie it examines.

Megadoc plays like a spiritual cousin to Hearts of Darkness, the classic deep dive into the madness behind Apocalypse Now. This time the lens is turned toward Megalopolis, a film that fizzled fast at the box office and faded from conversation.

The documentary, however, refuses to let the story die. It pulls viewers into the tension and unpredictability that unfolded during production and features unfiltered appearances from Coppola along with Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, Nathalie Emmanuel, Dustin Hoffman, Giancarlo Esposito, Chloe Fineman, Shia LaBeouf, Laurence Fishburne, Jon Voight, Talia Shire, Robert De Niro, and others.

The new trailer ends with a line from Coppola that perfectly encapsulates his do or die commitment to art: "Who cares if you die broke if you made something that you think is beautiful."

It is the kind of statement that captures exactly why people are still fascinated with him, even when the results miss the mark.

The synopsis reads: "This September: A raw, fly-on-the-wall documentary about Francis Ford Coppola's decades-long journey in creating his self-financed passion project, Megalopolis.

“The bold and unrelenting epic returns in Mike Figgis' compelling portrait of Coppola's creative process – weaving together archival material, unfiltered cast interviews, and a close-up view of how the legendary filmmaker drew from Roman history, political allegory, and his own singular vision to shape the world of Megalopolis. This isn’t a record of a production on the brink, it’s a personal memoir unfolding in real time."

Even if Megalopolis didn’t connect with audiences, Megadoc looks like the kind of behind the scenes story film fans will love.

Megadoc is available in the U.S. on VOD, with the UK release rolling out soon.
