Mel Brooks’ classic 1981 film History of the World, Part I is finally getting a Part II! Seriously, this is actually happening. Hulu is producing a variety series followup titled History of the World, Part II, and Mel Brooks is returning to write and produce the series!

History of the World, Part II is a sequel to the original film, which was made up of segments set during different periods of world history. The stories told were set in the Stone Age, Ancient Rome, and the French Revolution. It also featured musical numbers, including one about the Spanish Inquisition and “Jews in Space.”

Hulu has ordered eight episodes of the series, and it will also be executive produced by Nick Kroll, Wanda Sykes, Ike Barinholtz, David Stassen, and Kevin Salter. We don’t have any story details to share or know what time periods it will cover, but Brooks said in a statement:

“I can’t wait to once more tell the real truth about all the phony baloney stories the world has been conned into believing are History!”

History of the World, Part 1 is a hilarious classic comedy, and I never expected to see a sequel get made. But it’s coming in the form of a series and as a fan of Brooks and his comedy style, I can’t wait to watch it!
