Mel Gibson is Set To Write and Direct a Remake of THE WILD BUNCH
Regardless of what you think about Mel Gibson as a person, the guy is an extremely talented director that has made one great film after another. According to Deadline, his next film project is a remake of the classic 1969 western The Wild Bunch! He is set to direct the film from a script that he will co-write with Bryan Bagby.
I’m a big fan of the original film and I guess it was only a matter of time before it got remade. Warner Bros. has been trying to get the project off the ground for years. I guess if anyone is going to do it and do it right, it’s Mel Gibson. I normally don’t care for remakes, but I can’t help but be a little excited to see how Gibson handles this movie.
The Wild Bunch follows an aging group of outlaws who are looking for one last big score “as the traditional American West is disappearing around them and the industrial age is taking over. They are pursued by a posse led by a former partner they double crossed.”
The original film was considered to be crazy violent back in the day and is now considered a western film masterpiece. The movie starred Wiliam Holden, Ernest Borgnine, Robert Ryan, Edmond O’Brien, Warren Oates, Jaime Sanchez and Ben Johnson. That was such a great cast and I can’t wait to see that ensemble cast that Gibson brings together for his film!
Gibson is currently prepping to direct Mark Wahlberg in the WWII Navy drama Destroyer. He will start work on The Wild Bunch after that.
