Mel Gibson Offers an Update on LETHAL WEAPON 5 and Says It's Still in the Works

Lethal Weapon 5 has been in development for a while now. Producer Dan Lin, director Richard Donner, and actors Mel Gibson and Danny Glover have been working on getting this film project off the ground, and I’m happy to report that project is still in the works!

It’s been a while since we’ve had an update, but Gibson recently offered one during a recent interview on Good Morning America while promoting his new film Fatman. When asked in Lethal Weapon 5 was still happening, he said:

"Yeah! No, absolutely. And the man who was behind all that, the man who brought it to the screen and gave it its, the goodies, is working on it right now: Richard Donner. He's a legend."

When previously talking about the film, Lin said that the story for the film is “very personal,” Donner and when talking about the script, Glover said:

“I don’t want to give away the plot on the script that I read, but I found the plot had very strong relevance to some of things that are happening today. I can say that. But that was in January. History changes so fast. But yes, there’s been talk about it. I can only tell you, if it does happen, there is something extraordinary in it. If Lethal Weapon gives us some sort of contribution to understanding a little bit more. It would be interesting to do. It would be interesting to see how we take this within the political framework we are in; the economic framework that we are in. And especially that framework as opposed to the communities that have been affected by the kind of police violence, the kind of police standards, and the power that they exert as well. And what would be interesting from that vantage point is what that attempt could be like at this particular moment.”

I’m a big fan of the Lethal Weapon films. I’ve enjoyed them all, and I love the characters. I’m excited to see how this movie comes together and what kind of story it ends up telling.
