Mel Gibson’s Character Cast in The New LETHAL WEAPON TV Series
Fox is currently developing a small screen adaptation of the classic action-comedy film franchise Lethal Weapon. Why? I don’t know! I guess they think it’ll be good or something. THR reports that the network has cast 24 alum Clayne Crawford in the role that Mel Gibson played in the films. He will star opposite Damon Wayans Sr. in the drama pilot.
The report offers some details on the story, explaining that the series kicks off when “Texas cop and former Navy SEAL Martin Riggs suffers the loss of his wife and baby.” After that he moves to Los Angeles to start a new life. It’s there that he “gets partnered with LAPD detective Roger Murtaugh (Wayans Sr.), who, having recently suffered a "minor" heart attack, must avoid any stress in his life.”
The series is being created by Matt Miller, who previously worked on series such as Chuck and Forever. Miller brought in McG (Terminator Salvation) to direct the pilot episode, so you know…this should be good. Who knows, Chuck had a nice run, so maybe Lethal Weapon will as well.
One thing is for sure: Clayne Crawford is no Mel Gibson.
