Melissa McCarthy in Talks To Play Ursula in Disney's Live-Action Remake of THE LITTLE MERMAID

It looks like Disney may have found their Ursula in the upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. According to Variety, Melissa McCarthy is in early talks to play the villainous sea witch.

That’s certainly an interesting choice, I just don’t know if its a good or bad choice. I don’t really see McCarthy being able to pull off that menacing voice from the original movie. But, if cast, she’ll most likely end up playing the character very differently. Hopefully, it turns out better than what I’m imagining in my head!

The film is being directed by Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns) and according to the report, the creative team is looking to make “contemporary and compelling casting choices, while still paying homage to the beloved animated original.” The film will also incorporate the original songs from the original movie as well as new music from Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The story follows a mermaid princess who wants to meet and hook up with human prince on land. To get there, she trades her beautiful voice in for a pair of human legs and has to get the prince to fall in love with her in a certain amount of time or the sea witch will collect her unfortunate soul.

While I’m curious to watch these live-action Disney remakes, I wish they would actually start coming up with some original story ideas and produce them! What are they going to do when they run out of live-action remakes?

Anyway, what do you think about McCarthy possibly taking on the role of Ursula?
