Melissa McCarthy's Ursula Sings "Poor Unfortunate Souls" in New Clip From Disney's THE LITTLE MERMAID
Disney Studios has released a new clip from The Little Mermaid, and in this one, we get to watch the scene in which Melissa McCarthy’s villainous character Ursula sings “Poor Unfortunate Souls.” This song is a classic from the original animated movie, and McCarthy does a decent job singing it in almost the exact same way as the original.
In the original film, the song was performed by Pat Carroll, and Ursula is looking to tempt Ariel into trading away her voice for a chance to live on land among humans with human legs.
This movie is seriously just a shot-for-shot remake of the original animated movie. I liked the original movie! It’s a Disney classic, and Disney seems to be happy with this straight-up remake formula.
The movie comes from director Rob Marshall, and it also stars Halle Bailey as Ariel, Daveed Diggs as the voice of Sebastian; Jacob Tremblay as the voice of Flounder; Awkwafina as the voice of Scuttle; Jonah Hauer-King as Eric; Art Malik; Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina; and Oscar-winner Javier Bardem as King Triton.
The Little Mermaid is the “beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father's crown – in jeopardy.”
Check out the new promo spot below and you can watch the movie in theaters on May 26th.
