MGM Picks Up Ridley Scott and Lady Gaga's True Crime Drama About The Gucci Family

MGM has acquired the right to Ridley Scott’s film project, which will tell the true crime drama about the murder of fashion icon Guccio Gucci’s grandson Maurizio Gucci.

Lady Gaga is currently in negotiations to star in the project. She will play Patrizia Reggiani, the ex-wife of Maurizio Gucci. “Reggiani was tried and convicted of orchestrating her ex-husband’s assassination on the steps of his office in 1995. She served 18 years before being released from prison in 2016.”

The film will be based on the book by Sara Gay Forden, The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed. The script for the film is being written by Roberto Bentivegna. Here’s the description from that book:

Did Patrizia Reggiani murder her ex-husband, Maurizio Gucci, in 1995 because his spending was wildly out of control? Did she do it because her glamorous ex was preparing to marry his mistress, Paola Franchi? Or is there a possibility she didn't do it at all?

In this gripping account of the ascent, eventual collapse, and resurrection of the Gucci dynasty, Sara Gay Forden takes us behind the scenes of the trial and exposes the passions, the power, and the vulnerabilities of the greatest fashion family of our times.

MGM plans to release the movie on Thanksgiving 2021.
