Mia Goth Still Has Hope for Marvel’s Long-Delayed BLADE Reboot
Marvel’s long-delayed Blade reboot has become something of a mystery in the MCU timeline. With Mahershala Ali set to step into the role that has also been played by Wesley Snipes, the project has faced more setbacks than anyone expected.
The project has been cycling through writers, directors, and story concepts since its announcement in 2019. But despite all the production turbulence, Blade co-star Mia Goth is keeping the faith.
In a recent interview with Elle, Goth shared her optimistic outlook on the film’s slow progress: "It's for the best that it's taken the time that it has. They want to do it right."
Hopefully, the extra time that is going into bringing this movie to life will lesd to something truly worthy of the Blade legacy. It would be a shame if they spent all this time on the movie and it ended up being a bland Blade movie.
When Blade was first announced during Marvel’s 2019 Comic-Con presentation, the reveal of Mahershala Ali as the new Daywalker had fans hyped. But, five years later, the vampire-hunting hero has yet to make his full MCU debut.
Ironically, the original Snipes version of Blade has gotten more recent attention thanks to popping up in Deadpool & Wolverine, while Ali’s version only appeared as an offscreen voice in Eternals’ post-credits scene with Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman.
Behind the scenes, things have been rough. The original concept, a period story set in the early 20th century was scrapped entirely. The elaborate period costumes Marvel had already designed reportedly ended up being sold off to Ryan Coogler’s film Sinners.
Since then, the project has been rewritten several times, with Kevin Feige still insisting that the movie is very much alive.
Fans remain skeptical, and understandably so, but Goth’s comments suggest the creative team is focused on quality over speed. For now, Marvel fans will just have to wait a little longer to see Ali bring the Daywalker back to life.
