Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are confirmed to be developing a Static Shock feature film. A lot of fans seem pretty excited about the project and we’ve no learned that Michael Jordan (Black Panther, Creed) is jumping on board the project as a producer. Jordan said in a statement:

“I’m proud to be a part of building a new universe centered around black superheroes; our community deserves that. Outlier Society is committed to bringing to life diverse comic book content across all platforms and we are excited to partner with Reggie and Warner Bros on this initial step.”

Jordan will join Reginald Hudlin on the project and he will produce it through his Outlier Society production company, which will be in the creative center of the Static feature. It will also give Jordan the opportunity for not only for some world-building, but to be directly involved in franchise-building.

Virgil Hawkins, a.k.a. Static Shock was created by Milestone Media and DC Comics in the 1990s. Most fans are familiar with the character thanks to the Kids’ WB animated series that aired in the early 2000s. Here’s a description of the character:

Accidental exposure to an experimental mutagen leaves geeky high school student Virgil with super powers. Able to control electromagnetic forces, he channels his newfound powers to fight evil, aided by his pal Osgood, who builds gadgets to help Virgil fight crime.

There seems to be a good team of talent behind the project so far. Hopefully, they continue to build on that team with talented and creative individuals that will develop a great film around this character.
