Michael B. Jordan's Outlier Society Developing Film Based on Horror Novel THE HOUSE OF LAST RESORT
Actor Michael B. Jordan, best known for his roles in Black Panther, the Creed films, Fruitvale Station, Parenthood, Just Mercy, Gen: Lock, and Raising Dion, is taking on a new project with his production company, Outlier Society. They are setting out to adapt The House of Last Resort, the high concept horror novel from New York Times bestselling author Christopher Golden, for feature development.
Golden, a Bram Stoker and Shirley Jackson Award-winner who counts Hellboy: The Crooked Man amongst his screenwriting credits, will adapt the book for the screen. In addition to Jordan, Elizabeth Raposo will produce for Outlier Society, alongside Golden and Pete Donaldson of Donaldson Media.
Published last January by St. Martin’s Press, The House of Last Resort follows a young American couple who relocate to a Sicilian hill town, where the mayor is selling abandoned homes to foreigners for a single Euro in an effort to revitalize the faltering community, in a move reflective of a recent real-life trend in Italy and other countries. Soon, they learn their new home has walled-up catacombs beneath it, whispers in its walls, and a dark history.
Currently, Outlier is prepping a reimagining of The Thomas Crown Affair for Amazon MGM Studios, where the company is under a first-look film and TV deal. In addition to starring opposite Taylor Russell, Jordan is set to direct the picture following big box office success with his directorial debut, 2023’s Creed III, which set multiple records at a worldwide gross exceeding $276M, notching the best opening for the Creed franchise, as well as the biggest domestic opening ever for a sports film.
Outlier’s development slate currently includes the film Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 at Paramount Pictures with director Chad Stahelski, as well as multiple series. Those include a high-profile adaptation of Fourth Wing, the fantasy bestseller by Rebecca Yarros, as well as Amazon’s The Greatest on the life of Muhammad Ali.
As an actor, Jordan will next be seen starring in Ryan Coogler’s original period horror film Sinners, which is projected to open to $40M+ over Easter weekend.
