Michael Bay Offers Details for TRANSFORMERS 4 - New Grimlock Photo
In a recent interview with EW, director Michael Bay and Mark Wahlberg discuss their new film, Transformers: Age of Extinction, and offer up a few new plot and character details on Optimus Prime and a character called Lockdown. In the process, he also confirms that this will be the first of a new trilogy. We've talked about this trilogy over the years. It's always been a possibility that this would be a trilogy, but this is the first time that Bay himself has confirmed it. He said,
“It’s kind of like a new Transformers. We had three, the first trilogy, and this is going to be the next one. Yeah, it’s the first of a new trilogy. I’m not necessarily sure that I’m doing [the others], but that’s what it’s meant for.”
We are going to get to see a different side of Optimus Prime in this movie. Bay promises an "angry Optimus Prime.” Apparently, after Chicago was utterly destroyed in Dark of the Moon, humans have decided that all transformers are bad.
“He’s done good for earth, and he’s been f–ked over.”
Wahlberg goes on to say,
"[The government] wants to wipe out all the Transformers, all the Autobots. Optimus has lost all faith in humankind, and I’m trying to convince him there is still good in the world and we need to work together."
Bay then goes on to talk about a character called Lockdown, who is a bounty hunter and isn't on the side of Autobots or Decepticons. We get a look at this character and his giant ship in the trailer.
"Lockdown is an interesting character. He travels the galaxy, he works for somebody else. And he’s here for one person, one alien, and then he’s out of here. So he doesn’t really want to take sides. The cause and balance of the galaxy is kind of messed up when different species play with different species. And that opens up a whole other gigantic world for Transformers.
Lockdown’s ship has a lot of meaning that can go into other movies. There’s a lot of backstory about that ship that’s not laid out here. You’re going to see a few things where you’re like ‘What is that? And what is that?’ And you’re going to see a couple shots like, ‘Wait a minute, who are they?’ But we don’t answer those questions."
Lockdown sounds like he's going to be a pretty awesome character. I wonder if the they will use him throughout the trilogy. Maybe they will answer those questions Bay is talking about in the other films.
When asked about the Dinobots and Grimlock, the director wouldn't say much. But here's what he did offer,
"I like to keep things very much in the dark. But yes, you’ll understand why they’re there when you see the movie. If you think I’m supposed to give away a lot of story points? No way! Keep it secret."
The movie is set to be released on June 27th, and I'm actually excited about it.
