Michael Bay Says He Would Love to Take on a New Superhero Movie, But Only on His Terms
Director Michael Bay is known for his big budget films with lots of action and explosions. He is always looking to up the ante and add his signature style to the movies he makes - the most popular of which include Bad Boys, The Rock, Armageddon, the Transformers film franchise, 6 Underground, and his latest action flick, Ambulance. These films being so big and exciting in nature would make it seem like Michael Bay would be a good match to direct a superhero movie, and Bay would be down to do so, but only on his terms.
In a recent interview with ComicBook, Bay was asked about the possibility, and he said:
"It's not that I'm not interested in Marvel. As Ridley Scott says, the most complicated thing for a director and the most fun thing for a director is to build the world. I'm not the guy to go into Lucas' Star Wars and do Star Wars Five. That's not me. I'm not the one to come into Iron Man Seven. I'm not the one to do Batman 10. I want to do my own thing. I would love to do a superhero thing but I want to do it on my own terms and create my own world."
That’s respectable, and a bit safer than jumping into an established franchise. We all know how poorly that can go. I bet Bay could have his chance if he just picked a superhero from the pack that hasn’t been utilized yet. Probably something on the DC side that could stand alone. As it is, they could use all the help they can get.
Is there a superhero you would like to see Michael Bay take on for a feature film?
