Michael Chabon Hired as STAR TREK: PICARD Showrunner

Michael Chabon, Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist and writer of Spider-Man 2 and John Carter, has been hired as the showrunner for the upcoming CBS All Access series Star Trek: Picard. Variety reports that Chabon has been a part of the creative team for the series since it was announced, but has been promoted showrunner and is such a huge fan of the franchise that he had this to say about it:

“‘Star Trek’ has been an important part of my way of thinking about the world, the future, human nature, storytelling and myself since I was ten years old. I come to work every day in a state of joy and awe at having been entrusted with the character and the world of Jean-Luc Picard, with this vibrant strand of the rich, intricate and complex tapestry that is ‘Trek.’”

The series will tell the story of Jean-Luc Picard’s life after the last time we saw his character. Sir Patrick Stewart is back to reprise the role he played so famously.

The series also stars Alison Pill (The Newsroom), Harry Treadaway (Mr. Mercedes, Penny Dreadful), Isa Briones (American Crime Story: Versace), Santiago Cabrera (Salvation), Evan Evagora, and Michelle Hurd (Blindspot).

When previously talking about the series, producer Alex Kurtzman said the series is

“an extremely different rhythm than Discovery. Discovery is a bullet. Picard is a very contemplative show. It will find a balance between the speed of Discovery and the nature of what Next Gen was, but I believe it will have its own rhythm. Without revealing too much about it, people have so many questions about Picard and what happened to him, and the idea we get to take time to answer those questions in the wake of the many, many things he’s had to deal with in Next Gen is really exciting. ‘More grounded’ is not the right way to put it, because season 2 of Discovery is also grounded. It will feel more… real-world? If that’s the right way to put it.”

The series is set to debut later this year on CBS All Access. Are you super stoked for this series?
