Michael Fassbender Talks About Playing X-MEN's Magneto "I Think I Had a Great Run"
Two-time Academy Award-nominated actor Michael Fassbender (12 Years a Slave, Inglorious Basterds, Steve Jobs) is probably best known for his role in the X-Men films as the character Magneto. He ended his four-film arc in the role in the 2019 film X-Men: Dark Phoenix, and now he’s had a few years to reflect on his time playing the part.
Fassbender sat down with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via SuperHeroHype), and he was asked if he was happy with the results of his stint as Magneto/Erik Lehnsherr despite Dark Phoenix receiving mixed reviews.
He responded, “You know, I think I had a great run. I thoroughly enjoyed it. By the time Dark Phoenix was over — yeah, it was like…It was lucky, we had a fantastic run of it.”
When asked if he misses moving things with his mind, Fassbender joked, “No, the pressure was getting to me in the end, moving stuff all the time on demand, all these kids asking me to do it.”
It’s cool that he got to end his arc with Magneto before the franchise was rebooted with Marvel, and I’m glad he looks back on the experience fondly. Fassbender can next be seen in David Sandberg’s Kung Fury 2. He is also slated to star alongside his wife, Alicia Vikander, in a new movie titled Hope, directed by The Wailing’s Na Hong-jin.
