Seth Rogen and Michael Keaton are set to star in a new comedy called King of the Jungle, which will tell the true story of John McAfee. McAffee was a computer programmer and businessman who founded the software company McAfee Associates.
This film may not sound very exciting at first glance, but McAfee’s life took a crazy and interesting turn that does make for a great story to tell.
According to Variety, Keaton will will take on the role McAfee, who is also the creator of the McAfee Antivirus software. “McAfee cashed in his fortune, left civilization, and moved to the jungle in Belize, where he set up a compound of guns, sex, and madness.”
Rogen will portray Wired magazine investigator Ari Furman, “who accepts what he thinks is a run-of-the-mill assignment to interview McAfee, but once he arrives in Belize, he finds himself pulled into McAfee’s escalating paranoia, slippery reality, and murder.”
The movie is being directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (I Love You Phillip Morris) from a script written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. The movie is based on the Joshua Davis Wired magazine article “John McAfee’s Last Stand”, which you can read here if you’re interested.
This is going to be a great role for Keaton to take on! It’s always fun to see Keaton embrace the crazy!
