Michael Keaton Is Set to Appear in HBO Max's BATGIRL Film, Presumably as Batman

A couple months ago the directors of the upcoming Batgirl film, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, said that the movie would feature the “real Batman.” Well, in my mind, the real Batman has always been Michael Keaton, and it looks like he will be coming back to reprise his role!

Warner Bros. Pictures has released an official 2022 movie preview kit, and it features an updated cast list and synopsis for several of the movies that are currently in development including HBO Max’s Batgirl film. That preview kit notes that Michael Keaton is going to appear in the film, which is a welcome surprise. Merry Christmas Batman fans!

I should point out, though, that WB's preview also says, "Credits are not final and dates are subject to change," but the filmmakers have already said that the movie will feature Batman, and it just makes sense that Keaton will take on that role.

Leslie Grace was cast in the role of Barbara Gordon in Batgirl. She will be joined by J.K. Simmons who is reprising his role of Commissioner Gordon, Brendan Fraser will reportedly playing the Batman villain Firefly, Jacob Scipio, who previously worked with directors on Bad Boys For Life, is also listed on the cast list.

The script was written by Christina Hodson, who previously wrote Bumblebee as well as DC’s Birds of Prey and The Flash. Kristin Burr, who recently worked on Cruella, is producing the film, which is going to be released exclusively on HBO Max. Burr said in a previous statement:

‘With Batgirl, we hope to take the audience on a fun ride and see a different side of Gotham. Christina’s script is crackling with spirit. Adil and Bilall have an excited and joyous energy which is infectious, making them the perfect filmmakers for this Batproject. And I’m just psyched I get to be part of the DC universe, which is super cool.”

Are you excited to hear that Keaton will be appearing in the new Batgirl movie? I hope he has a decent sized role! Keaton is also back as Batman in the upcoming DC film The Flash!
