Michael Keaton Still Doesn't Understand What His Post-Credits Scene in MORBIUS Was Supposed to Mean
Sony has made some bad Marvel movies over the years, but one of the worst was the 2022 movie Morbius, in which Jared Leto played Biochemist Michael Morbius, who tries to cure himself of a rare blood disease, but he inadvertently infects himself with a form of vampirism instead. The script was terrible, and the story was half-baked, resulting in yet another awful film on the Sony roster. But one of the most talked about scenes in the junk heap of a film was the post-credits scene featuring Michael Keaton.
He appeared twice, first seemingly transporting into the Sony Spider-Verse for no reason at all, then in the final post-credits scene where we saw Morbius driving outside of the city to meet Keaton’s character, Adrian Toomes/Vulture, who comes flying in wearing his Vulture costume from Spider-Man: Homecoming and they decide that maybe it would be a good idea for them to team up.
No one got the reason for bringing him into the movie, and as it turns out, even Keaton was left completely confused by the appearance. In a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Keaton was asked how much he knew about, or understood what he was doing in Morbius. He responded:
“No. No idea. None. Zero. And even they couldn’t quite explain it.”
He went on:
“[Morbius director Daniel Espinosa] said ‘Let me just kind of tell you’ and I go ‘Okay I really don’t quite know what you’re talking about or even who some of these people are.’ But it was complicated because they were obviously looking down the road and said ‘Here’s how it’s going to work. This is what’s going to happen here.’ And I go ‘Okay, I’m in.’”
It’s too bad that they just threw in this cool character in the hopes that something would come of it. They have never had a clear plan over at Sony on how to execute their cinematic universe the way that Marvel has done it. So it’s no wonder that Michael Keaton didn’t know what was happening on that film, it seems like no one did!
