Michael Mann's Wild Horror Film THE KEEP Is Being Remade by THE WALKING DEAD's Greg Nicotero
Here’s some interesting news I wasn’t expecting to see! Michael Mann’s crazy 1983 film The Keep is getting a remake from horror legend Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead, Creepshow). The film is based on the book by F. Paul Wilson, and he’s the one that shared the big news on Twitter saying:
“THE KEEP - 2 days ago, after a year and a half of lawyering between the ‘purchaser’ and my side at ICM, I signed an option/purchase agreement with Greg Nicotero for the remake of The Keep. Greg is a longtime fan of the book and he's got the chops to do a worthy adaptation.”
This news is still fresh, so there’s no information on when the project will go into development. There’s also no acting talent attached and no studio or streaming service involved. For those of you who haven’t read the book or seen the original film, here’s a description:
"'Something is murdering my men.' Thus reads the message received from a Nazi commander stationed in a small castle high in the remote Transylvanian Alps. Invisible and silent, the enemy selects one victim per night, leaving the bloodless and mutilated corpses behind to terrify its future victims. When an elite SS extermination squad is dispatched to solve the problem, the men find something that's both powerful and terrifying. Panicked, the Nazis bring in a local expert on folklore–who just happens to be Jewish–to shed some light on the mysterious happenings. And unbeknownst to anyone, there is another visitor on his way–a man who awoke from a nightmare and immediately set out to meet his destiny."
I haven’t seen the original film since high school, but it’s one I’m going to have to revisit soon! That movie starred Ian McKellen, as well as Scott Glenn. One thing I do know is that this is going to be a great project for Nicotero to take on, and I can’t wait to see what he does with it!
